Funding Approved For Sioux Falls Campaign To Lock Car Doors

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Sioux Falls City Council is giving 50-thousand dollars to the police department for a campaign to urge people to lock their car doors and prevent theft. The funding was approved by unanimous vote on Tuesday. Councilor Sarah Cole, who sponsored the ordinance, says the message will be going out to residents through radio and television ads, along with billboards. In 2022, the Sioux falls Police Department received nearly 14-hundred reports of stolen vehicles. Spokesman Sam Clemens estimates more than 90-percent of the time, the victim had left their keys inside their unlocked car.
