(Pierre, SD) — The South Dakota Senate is pushing a funding plan forward for the state’s new men’s prison. In a landslide 27-6 vote yesterday, the Senate agreed to transfer nearly 230 million dollars from state government’s two reserve accounts into the state’s incarceration construction fund. That will be added on to the more than 330 million that lawmakers transferred last year for the project if the latest plan is approved by the House. The new prison facility has been proposed in northern Lincoln County in efforts to replace the aging State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls.
