Gov. Noem Asks Federal Government To Step Up Public Safety On Reservations

(Pierre, SD) — Governor Kristi Noem wants swift changes from the federal government to increase public safety on tribal lands across the country. She sent a letter directly to the U.S. Senate Committee yesterday. It highlighted several South Dakota tribal communities in crisis, including the Oglala Sioux Tribe, which most recently declared a state of emergency. Noem pointed to Mexican drug cartels being a big part of the problem as reservations continue to battle violence, drugs and other challenges. The letter also took a shot at the Biden administration to step up and take action.
