(Pierre, SD) — Governor Noem is back in the national spotlight, this time over controversy of a sixth tribal ban. Several news outlets reported that the Yankton Sioux Tribe banned the governor over the weekend. But according to Courtney Sully, their tribal secretary, that news is not accurate. She told KELOLAND News that it’s the tribe’s business and claims committee that supports a ban. Sully says a ban would have to come by a vote from the tribe’s general council. That has not happened at this point. Five tribes with land within South Dakota have already banned Noem this year. Those account for nearly 17 percent of the land area in the state.
