Governor Noem Delivers Annual Budget Address

(Pierre, SD) — Governor Noem is touting South Dakota’s strong economic growth after her annual budget address. Tuesday’s address at the State Capitol in Pierre covered the remainder of Fiscal Year 2024 and all of Fiscal Year 2025. She said her budget plan is an investment in the people, calling for making the sales tax cut permanent and giving teachers, healthcare providers and state workers four-percent raises. Noem added she’s “committed to budgeting conservatively” and “focusing on our priorities.” Most South Dakota lawmakers had a positive response to the governor’s future plans, but some pointed out she didn’t talk about tuition freezes at the state’s public universities, more state help for daycares, and any fixes for the current public school lunch dilemma.
