(Pierre, SD) — The 2024 legislative session is officially underway after Governor Noem delivered the annual State of the State address. It was a full house in Pierre for the 40-minute speech. The Governor used her “Freedom Works Here” theme to highlight ten points that she says she wants the Legislature to assist her with in the new session. Noem covered a lot of territory, from the right to bear arms, to protecting the great outdoors, and making sure South Dakota residents are secure in their communities. She says she wants to support efforts to secure the U.S.-Mexico border and also wants lawmakers to help her reform programs for South Dakota prison inmates to fill jobs the state is lacking.
