(Pierre, SD) — Governor Kristi Noem is going to send South Dakota National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border once again. She made the announcement Tuesday that a fifth deployment is happening during her administration. According to Noem, 60 troops will deploy over a three-month period this spring and help with “construction of a wall.” She says she will continue to help fellow Republican Governor Greg Abbott defend Texas against the large numbers of people flowing across the southern border. At least one-point-three million dollars of state funds have been spent by Noem on the prior troop deployments to the border, using South Dakota’s Emergency and Disaster Fund to cover those costs.
