Governor Surveys Flood Damage In Vermillion Area

(Clay County, SD) — Governor Noem says the Vermillion River is dropping and that will help crews identify breaks in the wastewater pipes so they can be repaired as soon as possible. Noem surveyed the flood damage in the Vermillion area Tuesday and told KELO-TV the river didn’t crest as high as experts predicted, which meant a lot of water didn’t back up into people’s homes. She added, “What we’ve got here is significant public infrastructure damage.” Vermillion Mayor Jon Cole says the broken pipes are resulting in over a million gallons of raw sewage going into the river each day.
