(Sioux Falls, SD) — The Great Plains Zoo is breaking ground on the future home of lions in Sioux Falls. The zoo held an event Monday afternoon for the exhibit. It will bring lions back to Sioux Falls for the first time in 30 years. President and CEO Becky DeWitz said everyone involved with the project should take pride in the work done to bring it to this point. The eight-million-dollar exhibit is expected to open in the summer of 2024. It will include indoor viewing spaces, multiple outdoor yards and a newly-expanded home for the zoo’s meerkats.
