(Sioux Falls, SD) — The Great Plains Zoo is sharing exciting news that a baby Humboldt penguin chick has been added to the animal family. According to a press release from the zoo Wednesday, the baby penguin hatched on June 16th. Maya the penguin laid two fertile eggs in the spring, but one didn’t make it through incubation efforts. The zoo doesn’t know the gender of the chick yet, but a blood test in the coming weeks will reveal that, according to the release. Guests can now see the baby as it gets used to the habitat.
