(Sioux Falls, SD) — The Great Plains Zoo is mourning the loss of a beloved animal. One of their giraffes, Chioke, has died. It follows a severe fracture to his left foot. After consulting other animal experts using laser therapy, the zoo made the decision to put Chioke down. The zoo says it was in his best interest given past injuries and arthritis that was present. Zoo staff said they were able to say goodbye while feeding him his favorite treat: apple biscuits.
