(Sioux Falls, SD) — The Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls is welcoming back lions this summer. Zoo CEO Becky Dewitz says it’s been over 30 years since they had African lions and it’s a very exciting time to “bring the roar back to the community.” A 27-thousand square feet exhibit will be home to a male and female lion. It will feature an outdoor and indoor lookout areas for guests. There will also be room for future cubs, Dewitz says the exhibit is “built with the species in mind from the beginning of life to end of life so that we can make sure that we can take care of those babies that we’re anticipating as well as when they get to their older senior years.” The lions are expected to arrive at the zoo in July.
