(Lincoln County, SD) — The group opposing the site of South Dakota’s new men’s prison remains critical of Governor Noem. Members of Lincoln County’s Neighbors Opposing Prison Expansion, or NOPE, say they are disappointed in the lack of transparency and communication from the governor’s office regarding the site. Noem has spoken scarcely about the new site between Canton and Harrisburg besides allocating nearly two-hundred-30 million dollars in her December budget address. NOPE President Kyah Broders says his group hasn’t gotten any response after reaching out to the governor’s office multiple times since the new prison location was announced to raise their concerns and ask their questions. However, Noem was quoted in a Watertown Radio article this week insisting the new site is set in stone.
