Harrisburg City Council Votes No For Prison Sewer Connection

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Harrisburg is saying no to the proposed Lincoln County prison utilizing the city’s sewage plant. The City Council voted unanimously to strike down the proposal Tuesday. Many people living in the area have voiced their displeasure with the idea of the state’s new men’s prison being placed there in the first place. Members of a group called, NOPE, Neighbors Opposing Prison Expansion, voiced concerns over prison wastewater in a city forum last night. This all while the group is leading the charge to have the location for the facility scrapped entirely. State officials previously said that a wastewater lagoon system could be built for the prison near the site as a backup plan.
