Health Department Working To Bring More Vaccines To Kids

(Pierre, SD) — The South Dakota Department of Health wants to get more vaccines to kids. Children receiving common childhood vaccinations ahead of starting kindergarten has been on the decline. DOH Secretary Melissa Magstadt told lawmakers in a meeting Tuesday she believes it’s due to problems from the COVID-19 pandemic as well as growing vaccine hesitancy. Officials are now working with clinics to reach patients and are planning to roll out new mobile clinics equipped to give vaccinations to those who may be unable to travel to a local clinic. The DOH also promises a new public health campaign.
