Hearing Held For Mitchell Truck Stop Murder Suspect

(Mitchell, SD) — The first hearing is complete for a man charged in the death of a woman at a Mitchell truck stop last month. Anthony Harris from Detroit, Michigan, appeared in court yesterday for an advisory hearing. The 60-year-old faces charges of second-degree murder and burying a body without a permit. Remains now identified as 57-year-old Melody Gooch of Detroit were discovered in the I-90 Travel Center parking lot in Mitchell shortly before 11 p.m. on March 11th. According to court documents, Harris repeatedly ran over a woman he’d been traveling with and left her body hidden behind the truck stop. Authorities tracked him down two weeks ago in Washington State thanks to security footage and electronic records. A preliminary hearing is set for April 15th in Mitchell.
