(Sioux Falls, SD) — The Salvation Army and other organizations in South Dakota are seeing an extraordinarily high demand for food assistance headed into the holiday season. The Salvation Army partners with Avera McKennan employees and Hy-Vee to help families each year. But they had to cut off sign-ups for Thanksgiving meal baskets due to almost a thousand requests in just a few days. Eugene Ware with the Salvation Army in Sioux Falls says they gave meal baskets to a total of six-hundred people last year. He also notes some of the shelves are bare right now at their food pantry because they can see close to a hundred people daily. Extra volunteers and donations are vital to help those in need this time of year.
