Independent, Non-Affiliated Voters Now Outnumber Democrats In South Dakota

(Pierre, SD) — Registered Independent and non-affiliated voters have now surpassed the number of registered Democrat voters in South Dakota. The change came as of Monday morning by a slim margin. There were nearly 91-thousand registered Independents and more than 60-thousand non-affiliated voters for a total of just over 151-thousand. According to updated released by the Secretary of State’s Office, that tally is 223 more voters than the number of registered Democrats. Experts say the number of Independent and non-affiliated voters in South Dakota has been growing steadily during the past few decades.
