Inmates Charged For Attacks On Officers Make Court Appearance

(Sioux Falls, SD) — A pair of inmates involved in attacks at the South Dakota State Penitentiary are having their day in court. A motion hearing was held yesterday to decide on what evidence will be used in an upcoming trial. Kyle Jones and Lester Monroe are charged with attempted first-degree murder. They allegedly attacked two correctional officers in the Jameson Annex in August of last year in which court documents say the officers were hit in the head at least 70 times. Monroe and Jones have both pleaded not guilty. There will be one more motion hearing this month with the trial scheduled to start in mid-July.
