(Mitchell, SD) — Officials are trying to solidify a plan for cleaning Lake Mitchell. A public health watch was issued on July 5th as the lake has long suffered from algae blooms and high phosphorus levels. The debate is now about how the clean-up gets done, when it will happen, and full cost of the project. Mayor Bob Everson wants the people of Mitchell to ultimately decide after the initial plan of dredging and taking out a loan to do so fell apart in June. It’s going to be expensive no matter what but waiting to act could make matters worse.
