Lawmakers Debate State Airport Funding In Budget Talks

(Pierre, SD) — Lawmakers are still working to decide on funding for state airports within the session’s final budget. Senate Bill 144 was amended to just over 19-hundred dollars before passing the House. Lawmakers say it’s likely headed to a conference committee before a final dollar amount is picked. Supporters say the state’s largest airports have a billion-dollar impact. Opponents say the general fund state aid has never been given to the state’s airports in the past. More than a dozen bills have been considered dealing with budget requests.
