McPherson Co. Considering Petitions To Ban Electronic Voting Machines

(McPherson County, SD) — McPherson County is up next to consider banning electronic voting machines. It comes as the group called South Dakota Canvassing wants to ban electronic voting and tabulating machines and force county auditors to only hand count paper ballots. They have been circulating petitions in several South Dakota counties, and now McPherson commissioners will consider them today. Supporters of the petitions fear tabulating machines can be hacked, something they brought up during public testimony before Lawrence County Commissioners last month in Deadwood. But county auditors say the machines are not connected to the internet and state law actually prohibits that.
