Men Found Guilty In South Dakota For Kidnapping FBI Specialist

(Rapid City, SD) — Two men are being convicted in South Dakota for kidnapping an FBI specialist at gunpoint. The incident happened in May of 2022 in the Badlands when the two men stopped the FBI employee, who just left an unrelated investigation near Oglala, robbed him, and took him hostage at gunpoint. Juan Francisco Alvarez-Sorto of El Salvador and Deyvin Morales of Guatemala were found guilty Wednesday by a federal jury for several charges, including kidnapping, carjacking and use of weapons. Alvarez-Sorto has ties to Rapid City. The victim climbed out of the vehicle when they stopped for gas, then ran to the gas station and escaped. The pair had fled to Rapid City, then back to Colorado, where they were arrested.
