Minnehaha County Commission Reviews CO2 Pipeline Setbacks

(Minnehaha County, SD) — Discussions about the state’s CO2 pipeline setbacks are taking place as cities, dwellings and schools weigh in. Minnehaha County Commissioner Joe Kippley plans to submit even shorter setbacks at Tuesday morning’s county commission meeting from seven-hundred-50 feet from dwellings to three-hundred-30. Kippley believes this will align with federal numbers. Jerry Briggs, an emergency responder on the scene of one of the worst CO2 pipeline ruptures in Mississippi testified earlier this month in North Dakota about the risk to a town of fewer than 50 people. It left some unconscious and foaming at the mouth. Government regulators are reviewing their own rules holding CO2 public meetings next week in Des Moines, Iowa.
