Mitchell Proposes Anti-Hate Speech Policy In Schools

(Mitchell, SD) — The Mitchell Board of Education is trying to prohibit hate speech on school property. The new policy specifically addresses racial slurs, discrimination, and hate speech. It was brought forward in order to create a safe place for all students and help eliminate incidents that disrupt student learning. The school board says this policy is different from its bullying policy because bullying is repeating behavior while hate speech could be a single instance.
