(Mobridge, SD) — The annual Mobridge Chamber Ice Fishing Tournament is going to happen after concerns over lack of quality ice. Jesse Konold, Chair of the ice fishing tournament, said Monday that the latest winter weather has provided a boost for the right conditions. He noted that there’s five to six inches at the mouth of the Grand River, adding that further up the Grand, there’s ten inches of thick ice. The challenge is that some of the water has just frozen over, and competitors who usually just run and gun on four-wheelers to hole-hop have to be extra cautious this year. The 2024 tournament kicks off on January 11th with an Ice Expo, and fishing will begin on January 13th.
