(Sioux Falls, SD) — More details have been released regarding the officer involved shooting that happened Thursday. Sheriff Deputies were attempting to serve a warrant for a mental illness hold to the suspect at an assisted living center for people with severe mental illnesses near Cayman and Career. Attorney General Marty Jackley says the situation escalated when non-lethal force was used and the suspect had two knives, this resulted in the officers firing three shots. This is the first officer-involved shooting in South Dakota for 2024. The suspect was sent to the hospital and it’s unclear what their current condition is and the investigation has been turned over to the Division of Criminal Investigation.
