More On Initiated Measure 29 To Legalize Marijuana In SD

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota voters will have the opportunity to make several changes in November, including the possibility of legalizing marijuana in the state as one of the top ballot measures. Initiated Measure 29 aims to allow recreational use of the drug for anyone 21 and older. The language says adults can possess up to two ounces as well as grow and distribute marijuana. Attorney General Marty Jackley says the constitutional amendment does allow for restrictions for where people can have marijuana, such as schools or the workplace. Advocates say the largest impact will be decriminalizing marijuana so low-level offenders no longer have to take up jail space which has been costly to the state.
