(Pierre, SD) — The numbers are in from the 26th annual National Drug Takeback Day at the end of April. The DEA Omaha Division is reporting over nine tons of unused medication was collected throughout its five-state region. That includes Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. The DEA and law enforcement partners received over 670-thousand pounds of medications at nearly five-thousand sites nationally. As of this year, there are now collection sites open daily with hundreds in South Dakota that can be found online.
