(Pierre, SD) — The fight over carbon pipelines in South Dakota continues. Summit Carbon solutions submitted a new carbon pipeline application to the state Public Utilities Commission yesterday. Summit hopes to have South Dakota join Iowa and North Dakota in approving its pipeline project. This comes just two weeks after voters rejected Referred Law 21 which was criticized for giving control of carbon pipelines over to the state. All but one South Dakota county voted ‘no’ as residents made it clear that they are not in favor of pipeline projects in the state. State lawmakers in opposition defending the result claim the pipeline is a waste of taxpayer dollars, a safety risk, and a violation of landowners’ rights. Summit Carbon released a statement yesterday, saying the application submission is a major milestone in engagement with South Dakota to advance “energy innovation.”
