New Grant Program Coming For First-Time Home Buyers

(Pierre, SD) — A new state-wide program is aiming to give recent grads a better opportunity for home ownership. It’s called Grants for Grads, making a comeback through South Dakota’s Housing Development Authority with hopes of attracting more workers to the state. The grants are for houses, duplexes, townhomes or condos priced at 385-thousand dollars or less. Eligible recipients can receive down payment assistance of up to five percent of their loan amount. The average cost for buying a home in South Dakota is currently over 315-thousand dollars — up eight percent from last year. The state hopes to give out roughly a thousand of these grants over the next year.
