No Set Plans For SD Governor Transition

(Pierre, SD) — There’s no plans yet for the likely imminent transition of South Dakota’s next governor.

Pierre Mayor Steve Harding says that he does expect word soon, possibly sometime this week. The mayor of Pierre has traditionally appointed an inauguration committee each time that a new governor is preparing to take office. Governor Kristi Noem has been appointed by President-elect Donald Trump to be the next Homeland Security Secretary. The U.S. Senate is supposed to consider her confirmation after Trump is sworn in on January 20th.

The South Dakota Constitution calls for Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden to be the successor to Noem. The governor’s office hasn’t given any official word yet on the transition either. However, Noem does appear to be packing up as the last few of her weekly columns have been written by other members in her administration.
