(Pierre, SD) — Governor Kristi Noem is reiterating her claims that Mexican drug cartels are using tribal areas as “safe havens” to commit crimes in the state. The governor made her comments during a 51-minute press conference on Friday. Noem told reporters she was citing data from the Drug Enforcement Agency. She also talked about being banned from most of the tribal areas in the state, saying “Banishing me does not help anything.” Seven of South Dakota’s nine tribes have banned the governor and the remaining two are considering banning her.
