(Rapid City, SD) — The names of the drivers in last week’s fatal crash on I-90 in Pennington County have been released. The Department of Public Safety issued a news release on Sunday that said 44-year old Dustin Shawn Walz died at the scene, while 56-year-old James M. Cunningham suffered life-threatening injuries. The crash happened last Wednesday evening near mile marker 53, a couple miles west of Rapid City. The release said Walz was driving a 2007 Mazda Three eastbound on I-90 West and collided head-on with Cunningham in a 2001 Ford F350. Cunningham was driving westbound in the same lane Walz was in. Both drivers were identified as being from Rapid City. Information is only preliminary and the crash remains under investigation, according to the release.
