Pheasant Numbers Promising For Next Hunting Season

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota’s next pheasant hunting season is already being highly anticipated. Even though the opener is still six months away, experts are saying that the state is lined up for a very good year when it comes to the pheasant numbers. The outlook is promising in large part due to the mild winter across the upper Midwest. According to Jared Wiklund with Pheasants Forever, this has led to more healthy hens hatching extra chicks. But Wiklund says it will take getting through the summer to be completely sure if weather conditions hold steady through the peak of the hatch around June 10th. The South Dakota pheasant season starts on October 21st and ends on January 31st.
