Pilot, Passenger Identified In Deadly Plane Crash Near Pierre

(Pierre, SD) — More details are being revealed after a deadly plane crash near Pierre on Monday afternoon. The single engine airplane was piloted by 59-year-old Eric Meyer of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The passenger killed in the crash was 76-year-old Hugh Alexander, also from Steamboat Springs. They left Pierre Regional Airport to head back home around 4 p.m. But at about 4:11 p.m., the pilot reported that the plane’s engine failed and crashed northwest of Pierre. Meyer, who was only briefly hospitalized, called 911 right away. Federal officials are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.
