(Pierre, SD) — New restrictions for South Dakota’s medical cannabis patients are one step away from happening. The House approved an assortment of changes Thursday that passed in landslide votes, and they now just need approval from the governor. Senate Bill 42 would add the names of people certified for South Dakota medical cannabis cards to the state’s prescription drug monitoring program. Senate Bill 10, also passed by the House, would require a notification of medical cannabis certification be provided to a patient’s primary or referring practitioner, but that bill will get one more look from the Senate. Republican Representative Fred Deutsch made an attempt Thursday to criminalize failing to provide the notice, however, it fell short, 25-44.
