(Pierre, SD) — The South Dakota Legislature’s investigative panel may be issuing new subpoenas for some state Department of Revenue officials after two were squashed earlier this month. The Government Operations and Audit Committee has set a meeting for Thursday morning, right after the start of the Legislature’s new term at the Capitol. Members want to discuss issuing new subpoenas. This comes as lawmakers are trying to learn what corrective steps the Department of Revenue is taking for criminal allegations of title fraud within the state Division of Motor Vehicles. State law requires that the Legislature’s Executive Board approve any subpoena the committee wants to move forward with. The Executive Board has now set a meeting for Friday afternoon.
