Prairie Dogs Battling Plague In Badlands

(Interior, SD) — Prairie dogs in the Badlands National Park area are dealing with a plague. The National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service confirmed the discovery yesterday after conducting tests last week. according to NPS, plague is a non-native bacterial disease that occurs in rodents and their fleas throughout the western U.S. Officials say any risks to humans is low. Crews are going to be applying emergency flea control agents to stop the spread.
