Recent Poll Shows Opposition For Recreational Marijuana

(Pierre, SD) — Recent polling is revealing strong opposition for November’s General Election ballot measure to legalize recreational marijuana in South Dakota. Initiated Measure 29 is the third time a major push is being made for legalization. The poll was conducted with 500 voters by South Dakota News Watch and the Chiesman Center for Democracy. It revealed about 52 percent are against the change. Just under 42 percent of polled voters favor the measure with almost seven percent undecided. South Dakotans for Better Marijuana Laws group spearheaded the petition effort to make Initiated Measure 29 happen. Executive director Matthew Schweich says he believes the level of support is higher than the numbers in the poll.
