(Rapid City, SD) — It was a record-breaking 2023 for the South Dakota tourism industry. Nearly 15 million people visited the Mount Rushmore State last year, according to Travel South Dakota. It was about a five-percent increase from the year before, setting a new record. It led to another new record of five-point-one hotel room being booked. Wanda Goodman, deputy secretary for Travel South Dakota, says, “the tourism industry supports nearly 58-thousand jobs in the state” and those jobs generated two-point-two billion dollars in income for those employees and their families last year.
