(Sioux Falls, SD) — The Great Plains Zoo’s beloved elderly red panda, Wicket, has passed away. The announcement was made on the zoo’s Facebook page yesterday. Wicket was 16 years old and had lived at Great Plains Zoo since 2009. According to the post, zoo veterinary staff “made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize him” because of age-related factors. Wicket gained national attention in 2016 as part of CNN’s Great Big Story.
