Report: South Dakota Dams Not In Great Shape

(Pierre, SD) — A new report is showing South Dakota is top-ten nationally among states with dams and reservoirs in poor shape. That means they are at risk of failure that pose the greatest potential threat to nearby residents. A website called GetMyBoat conducted the analysis from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ National Inventory of Dams. None of South Dakota’s dams were listed as an immediate threat, but the major examples that are considered in poor condition are Marindahl, Richmond, Rank Dam, and Lake Corsica Dam. Over a third of dam conditions in the state have not even been reported, according to the analysis.
