Rosebud Sioux Tribe Picks Up Flag From Capitol

(Pierre, SD) — The Rosebud Sioux Tribe is officially ending its association with Governor Noem. Council members from the tribe picked up their tribal flag from the state Capitol yesterday. It comes after Democratic Representative Eric Emery shared an open letter Friday, calling on Noem to stop displaying the flag inside the Capitol and return it to the tribe. Emery told KELOLAND News that Noem returning helps demonstrate “a commitment to reconciliation and respect for the Oceti Sakowin.” Just one tribal flag now hangs in the Capitol rotunda from the Standing Rock Sioux.
