S.D. Department of Education Permanently Revokes Music Teacher’s Certificate

(Britton, SD) — A Marshall County music teacher is losing his teaching certificate permanently after three alleged incidents involving under-aged female students. The South Dakota Department of Education revoked music teacher Larry Telkamp’s teaching certificate, according to recently released documents. Telkamp held music-related teaching positions at Britton-Hecla District schools, including band instructor, music appreciation teacher and choir teacher. The documents say Telkamp’s classes ranged from fifth to 12th-grade students. Telkamp resigned one day after complaints were filed by parents last October.
