(Sioux Falls, SD) — There’s a new warning out there of scammers targeting pet owners who may be missing their furry friend. The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society wants people to be aware of fake calls that ask for money in exchange. These scammers will sometimes ask pet owners for money over the phone to get their pets back and other times have asked for money for necessary vet care. Dana Konzem with Sioux Falls Area Humane Society says they will never ask for payments over the phone. She also encourages pet owners to keep your animal’s identifications up to date and recommends all pets get microchipped.
