(Pierre, SD) — With Noem now likely to leave her post as governor, major changes could be coming to South Dakota’s state government. Republican lawmakers Will Mortensen and Chris Karr welcomed the news of Noem’s selection as Homeland Security secretary. Mortenson says he’s excited to know that the perspective of South Dakotans will be shared in President Trump’s cabinet. Democrat Reynold Nesiba said he has concerns about the amount of turnover in her government office. Noem’s departure means Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden would become the 40th Governor of South Dakota. Many lawmakers are already giving the stamp of approval for Rhoden to take over. He has a long career in government, including serving in both Houses.
