SD National Guard Not Likely To Be Deployed For Flooding

(Yankton, SD) — The South Dakota National Guard will not be activated to assist in the ongoing flood disaster. That’s at least Governor Noem’s decision for now. The Republican governor said this week it would be really expensive to deploy troops. Any county requesting their help would need Noem’s approval and also have to pay for it. Democratic Representative Linda Duba from Sioux Falls was critical of the governor’s decision, posting on social media that the Emergency Disaster Fund is for situations like this. However, Noem did reveal that South Dakota has now reported the minimum one-point-six million dollars in property loss has been reached to receive federal funds from FEMA.
