(Washington, D.C.) — Another South Dakotan is going to fill a prominent role on Capitol Hill. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has appointed Jackie Barber from Onida to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Senate. The Senate agreed unanimously to Thune’s appointment of Barber. Barber, a USD Knudson School of Law alum, previously served as the director for the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration since 2023. She will now be the eighth woman and second person from South Dakota to hold the Senate Secretary position.
