SD Records 39 Flu Deaths So Far in 2023-24 Season

(Sioux Falls, SD) — More than 16-thousand flu cases have been recorded this year in South Dakota. That’s according to the Department of Health, which also states that 39 cases were “lethal.” These numbers are a part of the 2023 to 2024 flu season. Dr. Chad Thury is with Avera Health and he told KELOLAND News that what makes this year different is the vaccination rates. He says the rate is slightly down compared to the past two flu seasons. However, Thury says cases appear to be slowing down and advises those who get the flu to seek Tylenol and ibuprofen to keep your fever low.
